Trauma counselling following a serious incident may actually make the situation worse.
According to an article in the Winter edition of Picking Up The Peaces sponsor Health Services Australia magazine Pulse, there is no evidence to support the effectiveness of trauma counselling.
The Australian Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health’s Professor John Pead says the risk of worse outcomes is increased where well intentioned counsellors inadvertently facilitate individuals in adopting the sick role, foster work avoidance and thereby contribute to longer term disabilities.
The issue also carries mention of PUTP’s Kokoda Trek. Click here to read the full issue – it will open in a new window.

Hello All,
Well our Strategic Planning weekend was brilliant – Picking Up The Peaces now has a structured plan for the next 5 years – YEAH!
I want to personally thank those who attended, without your brilliance, your enthusiasm and your belief in this very worthy cause, we would have never lifted this campaign off the ground – and you would have to agree it was a fantastic experience watching things unfold. I thought we could have a brief discussion about the Strategic planning conference at our Christmas get together on the 7th December.
