Crunch Time for PTSD Day

August 21st, 2009

The date for our second National PTSD Day – Saturday October 10th – is galloping towards us. A lot has been organised, but there is a lot still to do.

Our next meeting – 7pm on Tuesday 25th August at the Vietnam Veterans Federation, 3 Burkitt St, Page – will focus on gearing up for the final run to the line. If you can be there, or help in any way – particularly with promotion – it would be a fantastic help.

We’re looking at making and distributing flyers, info kits, media contact and the thousand and one little tasks that go into making a public awareness day successful.

Hope to see you there!

Laurie Drake

PS: Great publicity on the Kerri Anne Kennelly TV Show last week. You can download a short (2 MB) clip from the bottom of our media page.

PTSD News & Background Added

August 11th, 2009

We’ve added links to a range of independent sources – Australian and worldwide – who carry articles on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The Australian ones are on our media page, and the worldwide articles are on our PTSD blog (see the ‘worldwide’ link at the top of each blog page).

This page aggregates PTSD news, comment and research from independent sources around the world. It caches them and redistributes them in a fulltext rss2 feed.

The aim is raise awareness of post traumatic stress disorder, and to provide a central focus for those who wish to keep abreast of PTSD developments.

Locally, longtime Picking Up The Peaces supporter Danny spoke on Radio 2XX about his PTSD – we’ll post the interview when it becomes available.

The committee is currently finalising acquittal of an ACT Government Health Promotions grant, and locking in details for our second National PTSD Awareness Day.

Remember – keep Sunday October 11 free. The festivities kick off after lunch, with talks, entertainment, and a walk around Lake Burley Griffin. Last year around 500 people took part. Let’s see how much bigger we can make it this year!

The next meeting will be within the next two weeks. Let us know if you’d like to participate!
