The 2nd National PTSD Awareness Day is on Saturday 10 October – and if you’d like to be a part of it, there’s still time!
Any individual or organisation with a stake in post traumatic stress disorder is welcome. Set up a stall and promote yourself, bring friends and colleagues and walk around Lake Burley Griffin, and then take in the music and festivities afterwards. All free, and family friendly.
If you can help promote the event, please do. There are details at the link above, and you can download and print posters or contact PUTP to get professionally printed A3 and A4 size posters. No cost.
And if you have a story to tell about PTSD, please let us know. One of our next projects is compiling the lived experience of those afflicted – either personally or as a family member or colleague.

Thanks to the Defence Directorate of Mental Health, the PTSD Awareness Day posters should be ready to hand out for distribution at our next meeting – 7pm on Tuesday 15 September at the Vietnam Veterans Federation, 3 Burkitt St, Page.
We will also have a string of little tasks to allocate, so if you or someone you know would like to help in the run-up to the Day – or on the Day (Saturday 10 October) – you are most welcome to attend.
We’ve had excellent co-operation from Defence, AFP and the Emergency Services Agency as well as the National Captial Authority, our hosts for the function. Our speakers and performers list and schedule should also be finalised on the night, so it, too, can be distributed.
Hope to see you there
Laurie Drake

Participants are required for an ANU study on intrusive memories in depression and posttraumatic stress disorder.
My name is Lian Parry and I am a second year Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) candidate and Intern Psychologist at the Australian National University, under the supervision of Associate Professor Richard O’Kearney. I am contacting you with regards to a study I am conducting as part of my doctoral research, which may be of interest to your members.
This study aims to further inform our understanding of intrusive memories in people with depressive or post-traumatic stress symptoms. In so doing, the results may contribute to the development of more effective psychological treatments in the long-term.
The first part of the study may be completed online (approx 20 minutes) at http://labs.thematic.org/start/memory . Participants may then be invited to take part in subsequent stages of the research which involve filling in questionnaires, writing about and listening to transcripts of negative life events. For the subsequent research stages, participants may receive an honorarium (up to $20) for their time. This study has been fully approved by the ANU’s Human Research Ethics Committee.
As part of my recruitment efforts I am hoping to advertise the study in a range of settings. I have prepared some posters and flyers for display/distribution in waiting rooms and a brief description of my study for electronic noticeboards or newsletters. If you would be happy to assist with this by putting up poster(s) or publishing a notice on your website/newsletter, I would be happy to hear from you.
I have attached for your information, an electronic copy of the poster, flyers and research summary.
Please feel free to contact me on 0403 899 011 or via Lian.Parry@anu.edu.au should you have any questions or require further information.
Thank you for considering this request and I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Lian Parry
