  1. Hello folks; recovery from PTSD is possible for everyone. I’ve been working with trauma of many kinds for over 20 years, successfully. This is not an advertisement.I have a page on my website called ‘Working with Trauma’ and an article in gotosee.co.uk called “the Resolution of Trauma; Healing the Symptoms”,both of which explain the physiology of PTSD.

  2. I am a specialist trauma counsellor with a genuine interest in offering help to war veterans. I am highly aware that there are large numbers of current and former military personnel traumatised by their experiences with very little help available to them.
I have worked with people still suffering from PTSD many years after their experiences, including those involved in the Falklands and Bosnia, as well as those who have witnessed genocide. I also work with families affected by the behaviour of relatives traumatised by their military experiences. I run workshops and seminars for professionals on trauma and have a thorough understanding of its devastating effects.
As well as trauma and families, my other specialist area is addictions and I have frequently worked with people whose only way of coping with traumatic experience is through using alcohol and drugs.
The Government’s approach to supporting military PTSD sufferers seems to be through CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) treatment, as it is relatively quick, cost effective and easy to evidence. Whilst, without doubt, CBT helps to normalise traumatic experience through challenging thoughts and behaviour, insight or ‘talking’ therapies may be more effective in the long term, as the traumatised person is given the time and the space to explore in depth the traumatic process they have gone through and to come to understand it so that it no longer overwhelms their life.
I do not run a charity, so I am unable to offer free counselling but, I am aware that those who are most in need of support are those with limited financial resources. With this in mind, I strive, as far as possible, to work within the financial means of each individual and would be willing to liaise with any charity that could provide assistance with funding.
If any military personnel or families think they would like to contact me either by email or telephone, please see my website on http://www.barbaraheathcounselling.com. There is no obligation and I offer total confidentiality.

  3. Another population largely forgotten in the PTSD discussion are parents raising autistic children with self injurious behaviors….as the parent is repeatedly witnessing their child injured by an elusive, unseen force..their child’s own hands sometimes beating the child to a bloody pulp…..add to that the shock of encountering a bureacracy too inept and apathetic and ignorant about autism and self injury to help, and you’ve got yourself a serious case of complex, post traumatic stress disorder among families raising autistic children with pervasive self injurious behaviors….one of the most misunderstood phenomenons of our time
